I had the pleasure of working with and serving with Rick in the Customs & Excise Section of the RCMP in "A" Division from 1978 to 1980 and I can say without reservation that we were the terrors of Ottawa Customs & Excise Section back in the day. Rick made me laugh ever single day and was a unique character who was driven to do the best he could do within the Force. I just became aware of his loss and my condolences go to his loved ones. I always considered Rick to be a great guy and good friend.

During the past several years Rick and I called each other at least a couple of times every week. He was always very positive about everything including his medical issues and he always had positive comments about everyone. He was a dedicated member of the RCMP and always held the Force in high esteem. He loved Leanne and always said that his life was much better sharing it with her. Always known as an animal lover and he showed it in his affection for his dogs. One of his proudest moments occurred a couple of weeks before he passed. At the end of a doctors visit the doctor said to him, "Thank you Rick". Rick was puzzled and he asked the doctor why he thanked him. The doctor replied, "For your service". Nobody ever said that to Rick before and it meant a great deal to him. Well my dear friend, on behalf of all of your friends and colleagues, thank you for your service and a job well done. RIP my friend.

Rick was like a fine wine. It took time to appreciate what a caring individual he was. When I had a personal family loss, while working with Rick in "A" Division, the words he expressed to me are still with me to this day. I was happy to spend time with Rick at his home a few years back as many stories were shared and laughs had by all. Rick will be missed by all that knew him.

So sorry to hear of Rick's passing. I was a Troop-Mate of Rick's when we joined the RCMP at the same time, back in 1971. I learned of his passing thru another troop mate, Dave Rusnell. I wish you peace and comfort at this difficult time.

I am a Troop-mate of Rick and actually in the big 32 "man" dorms, slept right next to Rick since they had us lined up in alphabetically order, ie. Renaud then Rusnell. I took Rick back to my hometown of Wadena while we were in training. After graduation in October 1971 we all headed out to our postings.......never connected with him again and had hoped he would have made some of our Troops Reunions.....he was a true friend..............RIP Rick. A greater friend a man could not have. Rick guided me during the early years of my career. He was an inspiration and always there to help. Throughout the years we sometimes lost touch but always reconnected. I will miss him but never forget this great man. We love you Rick.

Lianne. Very sorry to learn of Ricks passing. I knew he had not been his usual self for a while. I enjoyed his visits when he used to come into the mill. It took me a while to see who the real Rick was ;a kind caring person. May the Lord give you strength and peace.
