Sylvester Stanley Afelskie of Cobden, Ontario passed away peacefully in Renfrew Hospice on Sunday, September 12th, in his 92nd year after a brief but stoic battle with pancreatic cancer. Sylvester Afelskie, loving husband for 63 years of Anna Afelskie, nee Burchat, who  predeceased him in December of 2020. Proud father of Gerard (Bev) Afelskie, late Lorraine (Peter) Ridgen, Peter (Vikki) Afelskie, Jerome (Mary) Afelskie and Christine (David) Rowe. Caring and devoted grandfather of Lucas and Patrick Ridgen, Kelsie and Hailey Rowe and Laura and Brady Afelskie. Fondly remembered by his sisters Mary MacDougal, Marcella Pecoskie, Eva Kulas and brother Mike Afelskie. Predeceased by brother Ambrose Afelskie. He will be missed by many sisters and brothers in law, Sally and Stanley Stoppa, Susie Luckasavitch, Henry and Barb Biskup, Laurence and Barb Biskup and Joanne Biskup. His fun loving nature will be forever remembered by nieces, nephews and large extended family and many friends and residents of Caressant Care in Cobden. The family wishes to extend our great thanks to the staff of Caressant Care, the nurses, PSW’s, doctors, volunteers and other staff of Renfrew Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion in his final days. Sylvester was retired from Chromasco and had been a lifelong farmer who loved a good joke, could spin a story, fix a tractor or rig up just about anything he put his mind to. Above all, he was a solid, kind and hard working man who loved his family and the land he farmed for so long. We will miss him terribly.  Friends and family may call at the Fraser-Morris and Heubner Funeral Home in Cobden, on Tuesday, September 14th from 2-4 and 7-9pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Pius V Roman Catholic Church, Osceola, Ontario, on Wednesday, September 15th at 11:00 am.
