Helen Margaret (Oattes) Pettigrew Obituary

Helen (Oattes) Pettigrew

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the peaceful passing of my beloved wife, Helen (Oattes) Pettigrew on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the age of 77 after a lengthy battle with dementia. She was born April 22, 1947 and grew up on a Queen’s Line farm. After graduation Helen worked with the Bank of Canada for 3 years and the City of Ottawa for 31 years retiring in 2001.I first met Helen in the summer of 1961, she was 14 and I was 15 years old. She came into my parents’ service station to buy a couple of soft drinks. She had on a red denim jacket, black slacks and white running shoes. I was smitten. We were married 6 years later and celebrated our 57th anniversary in October. Helen is survived by her husband Murray, sisters-in-law Mary and Gail Oattes, Ona Finan,  and brother-in-law Barrie (Lynda) Pettigrew. She is predeceased by her parents Doreen and Arnold, 3 brothers John, Bart and Wayne (Grace) Oattes and brother-in-law Reg Finan. She is the much loved Aunt of 12 nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by nephews Roger and Steven Oattes and Robbie Pettigrew. After a long and courageous battle with dementia, Helen passed away peacefully in her sleep. Many thanks to all the wonderful caring staff at the Caressant Care Nursing Home in Cobden, for taking such good care of Helen. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Saturday November 23, 2024 at the Ross Presbyterian Cemetery, 1847 Kerr Line at 1pm. A reception / luncheon to follow in the Cobden Legion 43A Main St. Cobden.  If desired, donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County in Helen’s memory would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Fraser-Morris & Heubner Funeral Home, Cobden.
