Ethel Dagg Obituary

 Ethel Mary Dagg (nee Wilson)

Saturday, March 3, 1934 ~ Saturday, August 14, 2021

Ethel Mary Dagg (nee Wilson) of the Village of Beachburg, died at home peacefully with family and her thimble close on Saturday, August 14, 2021 in her 88th year. Wife of the late Marshall Earl Dagg. Beloved Mother of Kevin (Priscilla) Dagg of Pembroke, Brian (Marilyn) Dagg of Ottawa and Marsha (Cory Vereyken) of Beachburg. Loving Grandma of Sheena (Michael Wilson), Nathan (Sarah) Dagg, Chris Dagg, Ashley (Sean Whissell), Drew Vereyken and Cassie Vereyken. Dearest Great-Grandma of Tanner and Hunter Wilson; Maddison and Quinn Dagg; Marczon and Bryson Whissell. Daughter of the late Wm. Ernest and the late Martha Wilson (nee McGill) and Sister of the late Harvey Wilson. Ethel will be greatly missed by extended family and dear friends.

She was born and raised in Ross Township, received her education from the S.S. No. 15 Westmeath (Townline School) and from the Cobden and District High School. After completing the special commercial courses at Cobden and District High School, she went to work as a cashier and teller at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Beachburg for about six years until after she was married, was ready to raise a family and was needed for help on the farm.

Ethel contributed to her community over the years by leading various homemaking 4-H clubs, being an active member in the Zion Line - Beachburg Women’s Institute, assisting in preparing the needlecraft displays at the Beachburg Fair and volunteering with Molly’s Gang craft group. She was the food convener, treasurer and craft lady in her church, all for several years.

She handed down many family traditions to her children and grandchildren such as maple syrup making, family recipes, needlecraft and stories. Ethel was a meticulous record keeper and kept a daily diary for over forty years. She will be missed greatly for her artistic gift of hand quilting along with her appliqué, embroidery, knitting and crocheting.
