Eric Alfred Olsen

Passed away Friday August 28, 2020 at the age of 80.  Lovingly missed by Mary (Stuart), his wife of 54 years, and two children Steven (Amanda Hawkins) and Susan (Brady Laska).  Cherished grandfather of Jackson, Lylah, Erik, Maggie, and Lucy.  Dear brother of Margrethe (Dale Sheldrick), and brother-in-law to John and Helen-Ann Stuart, Margaret McLeod, Ethel Stuart, and Wanda Olsen.  Predeceased

by an infant grandson Oliver, and brother Lloyd (Wanda).  Eric will be dearly missed by many family and friends, both near and far.

Eric was privileged to have taught abroad with Mary in New Zealand and Australia before returning to Canada where he taught in Kapuskasing and Barry’s Bay, before settling on a farm outside of Eganville.  Mr. Olsen was a long-time member of the Opeongo High School staff, where he remained until his retirement in 1996.

Throughout his retirement, Eric continued to share knowledge about farming, gardening, maple syrup, whistling, and most recently, buckwheat.  Eric’s love of connecting with people led him on many adventures all around the world.  The many vehicles and campers he owned over the years is a testament to his love of driving and exploring.  He never turned down a drive, a visit or a dessert!  

He will be remembered for his words of wisdom, wooden shoes, and love for rambling.

Eric, dad, grandpa, Mr. Olsen – you will be missed.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.  As an expression of sympathy, take a loved one out for an ice cream.
