EDISON  DOW  STAIRS

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Edison Dow Stairs of Cobden. Ed passed away peacefully at Renfrew Victoria Hospital on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 of natural causes at the age of 98.

Ed was born in West Waterville, New Brunswick on October 16, 1924 and was the last surviving child of nine (9) children. Ed moved to Cobden in 1976 and was a resident of Caressant Care Cobden during the last ten (10) years of his life.

Ed was the beloved husband of Marguerite Shirley Stairs (nee Cobb) who passed away on January 6, 2012. Ed is survived by his children Marguerite, Thomas (Wendy), Matthew (Tracy) and Gregory (Theresa). Ed is also survived by his Grandchildren Jennifer (Dave), Jordannah (Logan), Jeremy (Kathy) and Cameron as well as a Great Grandson, Auston.

Ed was always full of life and was one the last WWII surviving Veteran’s in the Cobden area. Ed was a Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion and loved being associated with the Legion and being part of their on-going support of the community and Armed Forces Veterans.

A private family service will be held at the grave site at the Cobden Cemetery on Saturday, October 14th at 2:00 PM.

Donations to be made to Participation House Markham (Home for Adults with Cerebral Palsy and Physical Disabilities) in Markham (ON) on behalf of Ed Stairs.
