 DAVID JOHN STEWART  (Dave)

                                                                                       

 Dave passed away peacefully at Miramichi Lodge after a long, valiant battle with dementia. He was the son of George and Olive Stewart and is survived by his wife Judy (Crozier) and was predeceased by his first wife Margaret McLeod (1989). Survived by his children Laurie Ferguson (Glenn), Donald (Nancy), Diane Rantz, Warren (Kara) and his step children Joel (Kamila) and Jayme (Casey) Helmer. Brother to Nora Steed (Brian) and the late Phyllis Stewart, son-in-law of Aileen Crozier (Glen), brother-in-law of Chris Crozier (Cheryl), Lois McLeod (Graham) and Daphne Barron (Ted). Predeceased by Brother-in-law Donald (Peggy)  McLeod. He was known as Grandpa Dave to 10 grandchildren, Bria (Jay), John (Jocelyn) Ferguson, Colin and Caley McBain, Lucas Rantz, Chase, Cole and Austin Stewart, Adalyn and Grady Helmer. Dave was a proud graduate of UNB Forestry 1959. He spent his life working for the betterment of the forests in Canada and the last 25 years of his career was working at the Petawawa National Forestry Institute. Dave was the former Reeve of Cobden from 1982-2000 and during that time was the Warden of Renfrew County for two years, 1997 and 1998. He was a proud volunteer to the Rec Association of Cobden, a board member of Renfrew County Community Futures and Chairman of the Algonquin Forestry Authority.

Dave’s favorite days were one where he could walk in the bush or attend a meeting or two a day. As per Dave’s request, cremation will take place and burial of his ashes at a later date.The family requests donations in Dave’s memory be made to Miramichi Lodge of Pembroke or Hospice of Renfrew.
