Bertrum (Bert) Montgomery Obituary

A long life, well lived, has concluded.

With sadness yet gratitude, the family of Bert Montgomery of Brockville, announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Brockville General Hospital. Bert had celebrated his century on earth one month ago.  Our gratitude comes from the amount of time we were given to spend with this gracious, humble man who loved God and people. Bert had been predeceased by his loving wife “Evie” and his sister Margaret.

Bert was born on July 20, 1921 in Westmeath Township in the Ottawa Valley. His love of the land inspired him to take over the family farm near Foresters Falls until his retirement. The skills developed during those years and his love of history were an asset in the many hours he gave after retiring to assist in the establishment of the Ross Township Museum. He also used his craftmanship in building projects to support children’s camps and missions.

Bert’s faith was a priority in his life and generations of youth blossomed under his gentle teaching and mentorship in Sunday School. He had a natural curiosity and loved engaging with people over a cup of coffee or a good meal. Cultivating relationships was one of his most important values.

Children arrived in Bert’s life by birth and by choice. His wisdom, guidance and wit will be greatly missed by his daughters Faye (Laurence) and Dawna (Al), his grandchildren, Mark, Lauri, Darren, Shannon, Jonathan, Olivia, Janna and his great grandchildren, Austin, Abby, Sadie, Hunter, Myles and Harriet.  His life was greatly enriched by becoming dad to Bev, Mark, Mary, Ron, Bob, Teruya , Bob and Barb.  It was a privilege to be grandpa and great grandpa to Brittany, Adam (Faith, Bella, Hazel) Jenna, Brad (Ryker, Killian). Bert’s very special friends, Glenna and Ted, played a significant role in his life throughout the years.  Our family and extended family are grateful to Debbie whose support enabled him to live independently as he desired.

Our sincere thanks to the teams of Bayshore and Saint Elizabeth who cared for Bert with such kindness and diligence over the past months. Special appreciation to Lisa, Connie, Matt and Amber.
